Psychoanalytic Readings of Contemporary Amharic Novels

Doctoral research at Bahir Dar University on mourning, melancholia and ambivalence in contemporary Amharic fiction.

This doctoral project (PhD in Literature, Bahir Dar University, 2021–2024) brought Freudian and post-Freudian meta-psychology to contemporary Amharic novels, focusing on how characters and communities experience loss.

The research has produced peer-reviewed articles on mourning (European Journal of Trauma & Dissociation), melancholy in Yäqənat Zār (Journal of Language and Cultural Education) and ambivalence (PLOS ONE), together with papers at international conferences in India, Turkey and Ethiopia.
